A day with our Argentine friends

This past Sunday was the World Cup Finals. No, I'm not a soccer fan at all. However, if you live in Latin America, you learn to like soccer and the World Cup was a big deal. It was everywhere we went. It was on all the tv's in the malls and downtown, in the newspapers, in the taxis, and in the buses. It was big. I think I would be safe to describe it by saying that the world cup was like the super bowl in the US.

So, on Sunday, we had a big fiesta with our Argentine friends. They arrived at our house around 10:30 and we fired up the grill. They grilled lomo, which is a beef tenderloin. There were several other families that came to the fiesta and brought food. We had a mix of Argentine food and American. We had vegetables, pizzas, pasta salad, and lots of desserts. Shannon baked an apple pie, which was a first for them. It was a really good day to practice our Spanish. We had a great time. To finish up the day the men went and played soccer at a local park. They ended up getting soaking wet because it poured down rain. They all had a great time and they have hopes of doing it again before we leave.
